Who we are

Luis 34a public health physician working for the Bavarian state.
Leni 29a sports scientist, yoga teacher, mini-entrepreneur.
We open our home to people who want to brainstorm about the future, need to think clearly again and who love eating pasta.

We live in ~ 1,300 sqft flat in our Yoga studio.
In the evenings, students come for class, not hectic.
You’ll have your own room, but you’ve got to be okay with the vibe.

Without hesitation.

Europe. For all its imperfections, it still protects and celebrates certain public goods:. We like healthcare. We like free education, scientific freedom, and time. In recent years and especially months under Donald Trump, science in the U.S. is found hostile  politically, institutionally, or simply emotionally, actively undermined. This affects not just careers, but the foundations of science itself.

Since i can't sit here doing nothing, this is a philanthropic micro approach to the issue.

We are a couple offering our home in Augsburg, Germany, to one U.S.-based scientist at a time. Our 1,300 sq ft apartment doubles as a yoga studio in the evenings, and during the day, it becomes a quiet, flexible space for thinking, working, and reconnecting. You’ll have your own private room, shared meals, a bike, and a train ticket to explore southern Germany — with cities like Munich, Tübingen, and Stuttgart all within reach. We cover nearly everything; all we ask is that you book your own flight.

If you’re interested in joining us for a stay of four to six weeks between May and September 2025, you can apply via our short online form. We’ll speak personally with each applicant by FaceTime. Come for the glimpse. Stay for the purpose.

We can only accommodate one individual at a time AND must select one.
Therefore, we arrange a facetime meeting with you.
Please complete our google form beforehand.

Who is this for?

Any U.S. based scientist who feels

  • professionally threatened
  • politically circled
  • institutionally defunded
  • out of place.

Some fields have been more visibly targeted — such as climate science, public health, fashist reserachers, or critical theory, but I don't even know, if any discipline remains untouched.

If you’re an academic who wants to breathe, walk, think, and feel smart again — this is for you.

What do you need to know?

Are Germans rude?

I once heard that Germans are taught to be kind, not nice. This is likely accurate to some extend. Experience real talk or no talk, barley something in between. As a german I can't wait to pick up some genuine social talk skills from you, since this is something, we still may lack.

When can I come?

We’re offering this experience between May and September 2025.

Stays of 4–6 weeks are ideal. Let us know your timing in the application form

Can I use this time to write / research / apply for jobs?

Yes, absolutely.

You’re not just here to rest — you’re welcome to think, work quietly, connect with local research communities, or apply for fellowships.

We’ll help you find WiFi outwards, coffee, inspiration, and use our local academic or non-academic contacts.

How do I apply?

Click the link below and fill out a short Google form. We’ll get back to you in and, if it’s a good fit, schedule a short FaceTime call to align.

Where will I stay?

You’ll be staying with us — Luis and Leni — as a flatmate in our 1,300 square foot flat in the center of Augsburg, a mid-sized city in southern Germany.

It’s a lived-in home, not a hotel. The apartment is bright, and doubles as a yoga studio in the evenings. You’ll have your own private room and full access to our kitchen, bathroom, living space.

What does it cost?

This is a private offer, not a business — more a philanthropic micro counter measure to US turmoil in science. There are no hidden fees, no 'program cost,' no catch. You pay for your flight & travel insurance. Things like your room, food at home, regional train pass, bike, airport pickup, local support — is covered by us.

Prepare some cash for dining out or purchasing items you may like, as this place may offer new experiences.

Is it legal?

As a doctor, not a lawyer, I confidently answer this question with a simple yes. As a U.S. resident, you will enter on a regular tourist visa. You will not be working, earning money, or formally enrolled — simply staying as a guest in a private home.

Do I need to speak German?

You’ll be totally fine speaking only English.

English is taught at school and so is widely spoken, especially in universities, cafés, and among younger people.

German is only helpful if you want to join yoga classes or connect more deeply. We'll got you covered, whoever you want to talk to.

What will daily life look like?

Fully flexible. Some days, you’ll explore, while others, you’ll read, write, talk, or nap. We both work (Luis in government and Leni in health and yoga), but we cook, eat, and connect whenever it suits us.

You’ll have a bike and a train ticket. Munich, Tübingen, and Stuttgart are easy day trips.

Some days, only one of us will be around, or none at all. We'll provide a key for your convenience and answer any questions you may have. You'll surely make the most of your time here.

Will I be expected to create content?

Fully optional. We’ll invite you to share your experience with others — through photos, stories, or video, on your terms. If you prefer privacy, we fully respect that. If you do want to document the journey, we’ll support and co-create with you.

What if I live in Europe and want to offer the same?

Let’s talk. We’d love to see others create their own glimpse — and we’ll share our materials, experiences, and maybe even help build a little host network.

Want to follow the idea?

Let’s build. Host your own glimpse.
Copy everything. Share what you got.
We’ll support you in starting your version.
